Spring is finally here. And as custom, Melbourne welcomes this season in by showcasing the up and coming Spring/Summer collections of some of Australia’s favourite designers. As you’ll see, this season’s colour trends are black, white, pink and blue. Here are a few of my MSFW ready-to-wear runway favourites…
The brand that is favourite to most opened the Contemporary runway with a bang! Manning Cartell‘s Spring/Summer collection contained a white, black and blue colour pallet, loose fitting structure with an underlying swirly motif.
In the warmer months, white has always been a favourite, and I am glad it is here another year.
Like every year, Alice McCall showcases a stunning collection with her ever glamorous signature style. Sticking with the season’s black and white pallet, Alice McCall’s Spring/Summer line also includes bright red. The gorgeous light weight garments are perfect for whatever social day events you have coming this summer.
MSFW ambassador, Ashley Hart, wore one of Yeojin Bae‘s newest pieces during the Contemporary runway. The Korean designer showcased figure hugging midi dresses with front or back splits, some with high necks, while others with a plunge neckline. Other than black and white, Yeojin’s pallet also included a soft pink and a warm yellow within the collection.
Martin Grant by Christine
Spring Carnival at its best! A well balanced mix of statement yet conservative style, Martin Grant‘s Spring/Summer collection was an exciting opener to MSFW’s Spring Carnival runway. The colour pallet did not stray from black and white, however the creative prints and shapes within the collection was anything but bland. Styled with Phillip Treacy’s Millinery, each French outfit wowed the audience.
Arthur Galan A.G.
Arthur Galan‘s collection was not quite Spring Carnival in style, but was amazing nonetheless. This outfit is particularly noteworthy. The tweed material makes this shorts and jacket combination look casual, yet luxe – Perfect for Spring nights in Melbourne. The pop of pink in the clutch is also a nice touch, and really completes the look.
The Spring/Summer collection By Johnny was simply amazing. The designer showcased his signature style of figure hugging midi dresses with stripes of colour. The season’s colour pallet was also evident within Johnny’s latest range. Ambassador Ashley Hart, wore my personal favourite piece from this collection to the show, By Johnny’s Secondary Slice dress.
Lace at it’s best! Thurley‘s rendition of Spring/Summer style was unique and stunning! The collection included maxi and short dresses, with both flared long and no sleeves. The most impressive pieces were the light blue and the white plunge-neckline maxi dresses. This collection emanates elegance and was arguably the most impressive pieces of the night.
My final favourite, Nicola Finetti‘s gorgeous white dress with a sweet heart neckline. The fabric looks exquisite! The structured corset bodice gives this dress a sexy feel, which is toned down to sophisticated with the loose midi length lower half. This dress is perfect for any Spring Carnival event you have in your calendar this year.
